What is FSSAI?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the regulatory body responsible for ensuring food safety in India. Every food business operator must obtain an FSSAI license or registration.

Types of FSSAI Licenses

1. Basic Registration

  • For: Small businesses with annual turnover up to ₹12 lakhs
  • Examples: Home-based food businesses, small vendors
  • Fee: ₹100 per year

2. State License

  • For: Medium businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores
  • Examples: Small manufacturing units, restaurants, storage facilities
  • Fee: ₹2,000–₹5,000 per year

3. Central License

  • For: Large businesses with turnover above ₹20 crores
  • Examples: Large manufacturers, importers, exporters
  • Fee: ₹7,500 per year

Documents Required

  • Identity proof (Aadhar/PAN)
  • Address proof of business premises
  • Food safety management plan
  • List of food products
  • NOC from municipality
  • Blueprint of the processing unit

Application Process

  • Visit the FSSAI FoSCoS portal
  • Create an account and fill the application
  • Upload required documents
  • Pay the applicable fee
  • Wait for inspection (if applicable)
  • Receive your license
